What this service includes
Mortar is softer than brick on purpose, so over the years it is the joints that wear out first — not the brick. Tuckpointing, or repointing, means cutting out the old, failing mortar and packing in fresh, then tooling the joints to match. Done right, it keeps water out of the wall and adds decades to the brick. Done wrong, with mortar that is too hard or the wrong color, it does more harm than good — so we take the matching seriously.
- Grinding out and repointing failed mortar joints
- Mortar color and joint-profile matching
- Brick, stone, and block joint repair
- Spot repointing and full-wall work
When to call
Call when you need a practical masonry estimate, visible repair, replacement, new construction, or help understanding whether a wall, slab, patio, facade, or outdoor feature can be repaired or needs to be rebuilt.
Common questions
How do I know if my brick needs tuckpointing?
Take a screwdriver to a joint — if the mortar crumbles or rakes out easily, it is time. Gaps, missing chunks, and sandy dust at the base of the wall are other signs. Left alone, open joints let water in and the problem spreads.
Will the new mortar match the old?
That is the whole job. We match color, sand, and the joint profile as close as we can so the repointed section blends in. Fresh mortar looks a little brighter at first and settles in as it weathers.
